 "Daniel Tuttle, b. Jan 13, 1725, m. 1747 Jemima, dau. of Hezekiah Johnson, who died July 21, 1774. She made profession of religion 1752; (2) May 17, 1780 m. Catherine McDowell, who died Sept. 28, 1783, age 28; (3) m. June 1785, Mary Plum who died Sept. 17, 1803, age 80. He died Oct. 9, 1805, age 80. Daniel Tuttle and five of his sons were in the Rev. army."

 "He was one of the first organizers of a company to resist the British invasion. Although past 50, he enlisted, and was in many battles.
 An incident is given that shows of what stuff Tuttles are made: William, the youngest of 5 sons, notified his father that he had enlisted. Captain Daniel stepped to the door and siad in a peremptory tone: "Here Tim, Bill has 'listed and I want you to 'list also to take care of him" Timothy enlisted, as did the father and the brothers Joseph, John, Daniel and William. They were at Middle Brook, Valley Forge and Morristown. There were twenty seven of the name of Tuttle in the revolutionary war.
 While the men were in the army the women of the family spun, wove, made clothes for their soldiers and gave the fruits of their fields and of their herds."

 "Captain Daniel Tuttle, son of Timothy and Cecilia (Moore) Tuttle, was born January 13, 1725, at Newark, New Jersey, and died October 9, 1805. He was a member of the Hanover Presbyterian church; and was one of the organizers of a company to resist the British invasion. Although past fifty, he enlisted, and was in many battles.  Daniel Tuttle private. Enlisted January 20th, 1777, in Morris County, New Jersey, Militia. In Capt. Nodiah Wade's Third Company, Fourth Battalion, Second Infantry, New Jersey Continental Line, under Col. Ephraim Martin. In Battle of Ash Swamp, New Jersey. Sick in hospital at Rockaway, New Jersey, June, 1777, to January, 1778. Rejoined his Company September 1st, 1778. Was transferred to Col. Mathias Ogden's First Battalion, Second Established Infantry, New Jersey Continental Line, Lieut. Eden Burrowe's Company, and served in an expedition against the Six Nations (Indians) in Western Pennsylvania and New York. Took part in the Virginia campaign in 1781, Siege of York, and at the surrender of Cornwallis. Discharged November 3rd, 1783. Received two badges of merit for six years of valuable service.
