 "Bennett Bronson, b. Nov. 14, 1774; d. Dec. 11, 1850; student with Rev. John Foot of Cheshire, Conn.; grad. Yale College 1797. In 1798 appt. 1st Lieut. in Provisional Army of U.S. and began recruiting service May 1799. His regt. with two others quartered at Scotch Plains, N.J.; disbanded by Congress 1800. He studied law with Hon. Noah B. Benedict of Woodbury, Conn., and in 1802 admit. to Litchfield Co. bar. From 1809 to 1818 annually appointed Justice of the Peace, and again in 1827 and three successive years; afterwards refusing to serve. In May 1802 one of the Asst. Judges of New Haven Co. Court for two years. In May 1829 Rep. in Leg. for Waterbury. In 1814 became interested in manuf. In 1848 was the 1st Pres. of the new Waterbury Bank, and held the office until his dec. He was an extensive land owner, a successful farmer, a good lawyer and an excellent man. In Jan., 1833 he united with the chh. of which his father, grandfather and great grandfather had been deacons and was himself made a deacon in 1838. He spent much time in the collection of facts, historical, genealogical and traditionary in relation to the early history of Waterbury. He began this work as early as 1880 and pursued it at
