a. Note:   p.316 of Alva Tuttle's book, Tuttle-Tuthill Lines In America: Catherine Emeline Smith, b. 1800, d. Carrollton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, 1851; m. 1822, Perry PEASE, b. Jan. 23, 1797; from Suffield, Conn. He was a wealthy land owner; resided Carrollton, of which village he is said to have owned nearly the whole besides several thousand acres of the adjacent territory. As a large stockholder and leading director of the Dayton & Cincinnati (short line) railway nearly a third of a century ago, he was well known to the copiler who, as an engineer, was then engaged in locating that work. We are glad to add our testimony to the tribute paid by Mrs. STEVENSON to his character: "He was a man of rare excellence, a good christian and of a noble generous nature." He died 1863.
