Feb. 11, 1792, m. Oct. 21, 1813, Lucy, dau. of Deacon Amos Brockett, and sister of Zenas Brockett of Brockett's Bridge, NY, who furnished much of this family record. Ira went with the family of his grandfather, Daniel Tuttle, to Salisbury, Herkimer Co, NY, 1796. He was a poor fatherless boy without a permanent home, but managed by hard work, teaching school winters and working on farm summers, to support himself, obtain a fair education and acquire some property. Then engaged in farming and cheese making when the business was comparatively new, and in time became the owner of a large and extensive dairy, in which he has been eminently prospered. His early discipline of mind and body contributing to his success. He took great pains to educate his children, and they have repaid his care - born in Salisbury, Herkimer Co, NY." ~~~~~~~~~~~ 1850 United States Federal Census Name: Gra Tuttle [Ira Tuttle] Age: 58 Birth Year: abt 1792 Birthplace: Connecticut Home in 1850: Kirkland, Oneida, New York Gender: Male Family Number: 69 Household Members: Name Age Gra[Ira] Tuttle 58, m, farmer, b-CT Lucy Tuttle 56, f, b-CT Roda Tuttle 22, f, b-NY Marcus Tuttle 20, m, b-NY Huldah Tuttle 30, f, b-NY Rachel Tuttle 18, f, b-NY 1860 United States Federal Census Name: Ira Tuttle Age in 1860: 68 Birth Year: abt 1792 Birthplace: Connecticut Home in 1860: Big Grove, Johnson, Iowa Gender: Male Post Office: Solon Household Members: Name Age Ira Tuttle 68, m, farmer, b-CT Lucy Tuttle 66, f, b-CT Hulda Tuttle 30, f, b-CT Rachel Tuttle 20, f, b-CT [NOTE: It's a bit confusing as to where Ira was born, as the book regarding William & Elizabeth Tuttle's descendants says he was born in Herkimer County, NY, however, both the 1850 and 1860 census sheets show him born in Connecticut. I am inclined to think he was born in New Haven County, Connecticut along with his siblings.]
