Note: to new England 1635, and settled in New Haven in 1639, with Numerous Biographical Notes and Sketches, Tuttle & Company, Official State Printers, Rutland, VT., 1883: "A musician151st Regt., 25th Brigade, 6th Div. NY Mil. 1850-52: town Supt. of Otego, N.Y. ; a man of great euergy and resolution, and in consequince ventured out too soon after sickness and took cold, which settled into inflammatory rheumatism; after that, in defiance of warning of physicians, he made political speeches for a number of years and wore himself out while yet a young man. In 1859 appt. State Librarian but declined. In 1860 appt. Auditor of the Canal Dept. but d. before taking office, Jan. 14, 1860; m. April 15, 1846, Helen COOK. 1. Ella, b.Aug 16, 1851; attended Gilbertsville Acad. and taught schoool; m. 1870 A. J. GATES, some time a teacher in the Franklin Inst., now wholesale dealer in produce; res. Morris, Otsego Co., N.Y. [Children: 1. Nellie, April 8, 1872; 2. Ida Eliza, Aug. 6, 1854; m. 1872 Jay LENT; farmer--(their children)....Mattie J., b. Feb. 1876; 3.Isaac Powell b.Feb. 28, 1858; had a remarkable memory; learning by heart from a single reading; far advanced in all studies; when abt. 11 yrs. of age he was pushed from a wagon, and, falling on his head, died of the injury in about a year, May 28, 1870...From Mrs. A.
