 "Amos Tuttle, b. Oct. 31, 1761; removed with his parents from Southbury, Conn., to Hardwick, Caledonia Co., VT. He was a Baptist preacher, and the first settled minister in the town by vote at town meeting 1797, and so continued till 1806, then dismissed at his own request; Town Clerk of Hardwick 1800; Rep. in State Leg., 1812-14-15-16; d. Feb. 2, 1833, age 72 years; m. June 16, 1782, Rachel Jones, b. in Kent, Litchfield Co, Conn., May 2, 1762; d. March 7, 1824."
