March 6, 1793; m. Ssept. 14, 1816, Alva Jefferson Sperry, son of Capt. Enoch Sperry, b. July 3, 1797; removed from Alford, Mass., to town of Brutus, near Auburn, NY about 1822; thence about 1826 to Ludlowville, Tompkins Co, NY, having bought the farm of JONAH TOOKER, Esq., on which they lived for 50 years. Mrs. Sperry received a good education, and through life kept herself informed of current events; a singularly neat writer and correspondent--even up to her 80th year her letters are models of neatness and perspicuity. In her younger days a remarkably fine singer, and sacred music, in which every member of the family united, was a daily recreation. A member of the Methodist church for over 70 years; their house was always open to Methodist and other clergymen. At the church prayer and social meetings for more than 60 years "Father Sperry" was the chorister and "Mother Sperry" his able assistant. She had a wonderful memory for names, dates and events, inherited from her mother. She had always an almost stoical contempt for physical pain or suffering, manifested especially during her last illness. As a mother and domestic manager she had few equals. She died of breast cancer May 20, 1876, age 83. Husband, Alva Sperry is still living (1883) in his 86th year."
