"Rufus M. Tuttle, b. 2 Apr 1806, Yankee peddler for 10 years. In 1830 located in Wayne Co, PA, thence in 1837 to western N.Y. A merchant at Ormond, Alleghany Co, N.Y.; in 1842 removed to Hornellsville, N.Y.; present business, private broker. A man of wealth and influence; married 1831 to ANN W. LESTER of Mt. Pleasant, PA, who died Nov. 1832; married (2) Jan. 26, 1837 MELINDA MUMFORD of Mt. Pleasant. He died Oct. 28, 1874."
