 "Russell Mumford Tuttle b. Jan. 12, 1840; grad. Univ., Rochesterr, 1862; a few days after enlisted in 107th Regt., N.Y. Vols.; served in the army of the Potomac, 12th corps, a year, then in the 20th corps, Sherman's army; 1st Lieut. of his Co. and Brevet Capt.; A. A. A. G. on staff of Gen. T. H. Rugers, and subsequently topographical engineer on staff of Gen. W. T. Ward. In Jan. 1867 began the publication of the Canisteo Valley Times at Hornellsville, NY and is still one of its editors and proprietors; m. Nov. 7, 1867, Ervilla Goodrich of Hornellsville, NY."
