Jan 28, 1821, twin to Frederick who died March 27, 1822 -- When a young girl in the public school of over one hundred pupils, she had very few equals as a scholar among them. Gifted by nature with a soprano voice of the best quality, and with musical taste and capacity, equalled by but few professional singers; m. Henry, son of Gen. Hezekiah and Sally (Townsend) Howe, b. Oct. 11, 1816; (5th cousin by common descent from Thomas Mix). Mr. Howe was brought up among books and became at an early age a bookmaker. He compiled Memoirs of Eminent Mechanics, published 1839; afterwards bought by the Harper's who issued several editions. In connection with Mr. J. W. Barber, he compiled Historical Collections of the State of New York, 1841; Historical Collections of New Jersey, 1844; alone he compiled Historical Collections of Virginia, 1845; Historical Collection sof Ohio, 1847, being the fourth state over which he traveled, collecting materials and taking view of places and objects of interest. In 1847 he removed to Cincinnati, Ohio, and for many years carried on a large book subscription business, publishing The Great West; Travels and Adventures of Celebrated Travelers; Life and Death on the Ocean; Adventures and Achievements of American; Our Whole Country, Etc. The last named was by J. W. Barber and Henry Howe, an expensive work of 1500 octavo pages and 600 engravings, mainly from original drawings; was published at the beginning of the war for the Union. In 1877-78 he removed to New Haven, Conn., and resides on Crown Street, site of the old homestead of URI TUTTLE. His last book is entitled Over the World Travels, published by Bradley & Col., Philadelphia, this (1883) years. Children: 1. Frances Charlotte, a singer cultivated to the highest degree; --voice is of remarkable sweetness and compass, reaching with east F in alt.; also a thorough musician and has few equals in cultivating the voices of others. Has a fine reputation as a concert singer. "A brilliant vocalist, her voice a clear high soprano."--Art Critique in Cincinnati Commercial. 2. Clara, a fine church and concert singer. 3. Frank Henry Townsend, associated with Edwin C. Griffith, he was among the pioneers to introduce into Cincinnati, Ohio, the artistic decoration of pottery, which has since become a large and successful branch of industry. He is much interested in genealogy and has made considerable collections of ancestral lore in the paternal line. The compiler is indebted to him for aid. 4. Charles Tuttle, designed to become an architect and was employed in offices in Cinconnati, and with Benjamin Silliman, Jr., of New York city, who offered him superior inducements to remain, but his strong musical tastes and abilities led him in a different direction.
