 "Ezra Tuttle, b. in Wallingford, Conn., March 20, 1768, was taken to Vermont by his father when young, and m. there June 1, 1787, Rebecca Thomas, b. March 7, 1766. His wife d. Dec. 30, 1842. In Feb. 1801, with his family, consisting of wife and 6 children, he left Weathersfield, Windsor Co., VT, and arrived in Susquehanna Co., Penn., in March 1801. He drove two cows, one two-horse team and one one-horse team all the way from Vermont. He bought his land under the Conn. title, and paid to Ezekiel Lyde $300 for 300 acres. It was near Capt. Spancer's land. He had afterwards to pay $500 more to secure a title from the Penn. claimant, Henry Drinker. This was in Springfield, and was long known as the Tuttle Farm. Here he lived and died. The farm is now owned by the Hon. ASA PACKER. The house was burned and with it the old family Bible which contained the family record. Ezra was an active and energetic man; a carpenter, millwright and farmer; with the aid of his sons cleared about 250 of his 300 acres, and built the first framed house in Springfield. He interested himself in all public improvements of his heighborhood and county, urging them on and aiding them. He constructed a large part of the Wilkesbarre Turnpike. In 1814 he was road viewer, with SALMON TUTTLE, Mr. Blakesley and others. He lived and died highly respected. He died March 9, 1826. Children born in Weathersfield, Windsor Co., VT."
