Note: Tuttle, printed & published by Tuttle & Co., Rutland, VT, 1883: p.503-504 "Samuel Benham Tuttle, b. Dec. 21, 1807; died in Goshen, Conn., April 19, 1876. About 1874, contributed $25 to aid in gathering material for this work, and we believe he sent an equal amount elsewhere for the same purpose. He also gave the subject his personal attention and communicated much valuable information. My (George Frederick Tuttle) thanks were waived on the ground that he was doing no more than his share as a member of the family, for the common benefit. The following OBITUARY is from the Hartford Courant: "When one has passed the limit of three-score years, we do not commonly think of him as dying prematurely. But he whose name stands recorded here came of an ancestry remarkable for longevity, combined with mental and physical vigor; his own equable temperament and habits of life giving promise of a useful and vigorous old age. Born at Wolcott in 1807, he left his native town at an early age and engaged in active business pursuits, commanding wherever he went, the respect and affectionate regard of all who knew him. Those who sustained the most intimate relations with him knew him as a christian gentleman, undemonstrative and quiet, but possessing rare strength of affection and manifesting a tender and charitable appreciation of the trials and sorrows of everyone about him. His love for little children was a distinguishing trait of his character. Those who have felt the grasp of his hand, and heard his words of welcome that were the expression of a sincere heart, know that the large place he filled is left vacant for all time. To his brothers, sisters and step-son, he was a wise and tender counsellor and beloved friend. To his wife and daughter, his worth was beyond expression. It was fitting that such a life should close in perfect peace. After a few days of pain and weariness 'he was not, for God took him;'" Married April 7, 1835, EVELINE SOPHIA IVES of Bristol, Conn., b.
