"Noah Wadhams went from Middletown, Conn., to Goshen in 1741, and died there over 80 years of age. That he was an honorable and high-minded man is shown in the affair of the negro JOSEPH DeMINK, a native of Bravo, one of the Cape Verd Islands, who, being in Buena Vista March 1755, and desiring to return home embarked with Capt. PHINEAS COOK of Wallingford, who promised to take him to Bravo, but instead brought him to Wallingford and delivered him to DANIEL COOK, his father, who sold him as a slave to Noah Wadhams of Goshen for £52 and 10s. Wadhams becoming convinced that Joseph was a freeman, compromised with Cook and returned Joseph, but fearing that Cook might again dispose of Joseph, procured the interposition of the General Assembly, who fined Capt. Cook, appointed Thomas Seymour guardian to Joseph and had him conveyed home free of cost--Davis' History of Wallingford.
The first wife of Noah Wadhams died of her first child; he m. (2) a sister of GIDEON HURLBURT. His third wife died age 99; a daughter, Mary, m.
