 "Gershom Tuttle, b. Aug. 23, 17328; d. Jan. 5, 1818, in his 80th year; served, it is said, as Captain in Rev. army through the war. He went first to New Hampshire, thence, about 1790 to Clinton, Oneida Co., NY, afterward joined the settlement at Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY and with William Fellows, elected the first Deacon of the first Congregational church organized June 3, 1803. "In 1803 about 100 men assembled at Gershom Tuttle's, in the edge of Rutland, to decide a bet about Athletes between the men of Watertown and those of Rutland; night put an end to the contest, but on a subsequent trial it was decided in favor of Rutland."--Hough's History of Jefferson County. He married in Connecticut ____ Mitchel; children born in Bristol, Conn."

 had children; resided Sidney, C. W.; 3. Abner 4. Gershom, b. June 11, 1769; m. 1788, Bamelia S. Clark
 5. Bertha, m. David Mills of Rutland, NY; children: 1. son who was an M.D., 2. Dennis;
 3.Sallie 6. Zebulon, resided at Westmoreland, NY and with his son built a Methodist meeting
 house there; removed with his brother, Solomon, to Rutland, NY; married and had:
 1. Epha; 2. Sophronia (died young); 3. Flora; 4. Lucinda; 5. Truman; 6. Zebulon;
 and three more. One of the sons married Charity Wood. 7. Sabra, m. Seth Heath of Conn.
 8. David, lived in Oneida Co., NY and was at Dennis Tuttle's in 1833 with a son and
