Note: WAPAKONETA -- John W. Shaffer, 78, formerly of Lima, died at 5:40 a.m. today at Wapakoneta Manor. He was born Nov. 5 1909 in Venedocia, a son of Charlie and Minnie (Miller) Shaffer. In 1937, he married Lucille Russell, who, survives in Wapakoneta. Mr. Shaffer retired in 1976 as a potato chip salesman/driver in Lima. He was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 370 in Lima. Other survivors include two sons, Robert Shaffer and Gary Shaffer, each of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Charles D. Siferd Chapel of Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta with the Rev. Harold Thiedt officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wapakoneta Manor activities fund or to the Olive Chapel United Methodist Church at Converse.
