Note: DeLand, Fla. Vicki Lynne Christensen-Johnston, age 62, of DeLand, Fla., died early Saturday morning, Dec. 7, 2013, at Florida Hospital DeLand. She was lovingly surrounded by her family. Memorial mass will be held at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Peter Klein officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. She was born on Nov. 17, 1951, in Osage, Iowa, to Don and Lucille Christensen. On Jan. 21, 1984, in Blue Earth, she was married to her skydiving teammate Michael Johnston. She worked in nursing for 37 years, retiring as nursing supervisor of the Cardiovascular Operating Room at Halifax Medical Center as a CNOR CRNFA (certified RN First Assistant - open heart surgery). She was a skydiver for 38 years becoming a Certified Master Parachute Rigger, Instructor, and accomplished competitor with 14 world records. She was a member of AORN, the US Parachute Association and St. Peters Catholic Church in DeLand. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, scuba diving, caring for others and spending time with her many friends and family including her dog Patches. She is survived by her husband, Mike; daughter, Christen; son, Daniel; mother, Lucille "Lucy" Christensen; brother, Bill (Laurie) Christensen; nieces, Mariah Christensen, of St. Paul, and Tess Christensen, of Florida; nephew, Caleb Christensen, of Boston; and uncle Gerry (Marianne) Studer. She is preceded in death by her father, Don Christensen; and infant brother, Stephen Wayne Christensen.
