a. Note:   He attended St. Mary's Catholic Elementary and Woodward High School. He played varsity football in high school, from which he graduated in 1941.
  He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on August 5, 1942, entering service at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He served with the 483rd Bombardment Group (Heavy), Squadron 817, training at MacDill Field in Florida and leaving for the European Theater of Operations on March 13, 1944. He participated in Air Offensive: Europe, Rome-Arno, Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rhineland, Northern Apennines, Po Valley, and Balkans. He was a radio mechanic and a radar mechanic and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. His unit received a Presidential Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster and he received the Good Conduct Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 9 Bronze Stars. He arrived back in the States on September 22, 1945 and was discharged at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania on October 4, 1945. VA records list his MOS as 862 and his ASN 15105700.
  Following the war, he worked for the E.I. Dupont de Numours & Co. Inc. as a chemical analyst. He also worked part time jobs as a TV repairman and a bartender. In 1959, he moved to Lambertville, Michigan where he built a house at 3270 Pleasant Drive.
