a. Note:   She was previously married to Thomas Griffin who was killed in an auto accident in 1941. She and Thomas had a daughter, Betty. She also had a son Phillip from a relationship prior to Griffin. It appears that John adopted both of them as they both carried the Johnston name. My recollection of her goes back to the mid-60's, so they at least separated before then. -Greg Knopp
