a. Note:   MILITARY: "HILDINGER, WILHELM CASPER: "Caspar" mustered into Company H of the First Indiana Cavalry from Posey County in 1861 and mustered out in 1864. He mustered into Company I, 143rd Indiana Infantry, from Blairsville in 1865 and mustered out later that year. He was born June 23, 1828 in Wiesbaden, Wurtemburg, Germany. He married Catherine Miles. Their children included Mary E., Christina Regina, John Ulysses, and Hannah Lou. Casper filed a military pension applicationin 1879. They lived in Blairsville where Casper died on February 23,1898. Catherine filed a widow's application for his military service in April 1898. Wilhelm Caspar Hildinger is also shown as "Casper Heldinger.""[Steve Lucas]
