Howard Stude: I remember Grandfather's death because I was living with them at that time. My dad, John, had built another house on the same farm and Grandfather lived there the last year or so of his life. I was 8 years old at the time. Grandfather is buried in the Stafford Cemetery just SW of Stafford.

 The Stafford Courier -- Dec.29, 1927
Our brother, William Stude, was born October 1, 1861 at Owensville, Mo. and passed away December 25, 1927 at Bedford, Kans., at the age of 66 years 2 months and 25 days. The cause of death was a compilation of diseases.
In 1877, he was married, which union was blessed with four sons and one daughter.
God's mysterious plan allotted to Mr. Stude more than the average amount of sufferings and sorrows. He was stricken with a serious ailment which disabled him for life and he required constant attention with increasing difficulties as the years passed by. Yet there are two things to be said. The first is that Mr. Stude never complained but exercised the patience of Job and kept faith in God. The second is that his sons and daughter and their families took care of their father in loving kindness, and especially his daughter, Esther, in her unselfish devotion for her father in recent years and Mr. and Mrs. John Stude, in whose home the deceased spent his last weeks. May God's promise come true in their lives.
In 1892 or 1893 Mr. Stude united with the German Baptist Church. Though he was not able to attend any of the services in recent years or take any active part, yet he was interested in its welfare and its members as well as their Pastor. They were always welcome into his home and never left without a well meant "come back again."
Mr. Stude is at rest now. He is survived by his four sons, one daughter, fifteen grandchildren, three sisters and a host of friends.
The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by Rev. O. Roth at the German Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Stafford Cemetery.
