His discharge notice led me to start looking for him at the end of the war (we have a few thousand pages of documentation so it helps to narrow down you r search parameters). I didn't have to look for long. Cpl. Donald E. Cameron joined the 4th Fighter Group on June 23, 1945 and was assigned to the 336th Fighter Squadron. His assignment order indicates he came from the 359th Fighter Squadron, which was part of the 356th Fighter Group based at Martlesham Heath. The page you sent listed the 365th - perhaps that was a typo. Two other men (one sergeant and one staff sergeant) from the 359th were assigned to the 336th the same day. Cameron's MOS at Debden was listed as 555, which is the code for an Aircraft Sheet Metal Worker. The base was a highly dynamic environment at this time, with people coming and going every day as the Group was demobilizing. Servicemen with enough points accrued to go home were sent packing. And that was the case for Cpl. Cameron. On August 26, 1945 he received orders to the Reinforcement Depot at AAF Station 579 (at Padgate in Leicestershire) to await transportation back to the US. So his stay with the 4th at Debden lasted a little over two months. Cheers, Tim McCann Association of the 4th Fighter Group Editor, The Eagle Eye http://www.4thfightergroupassociation.org
