Note: "Bud" (Herbert H. Hammond) came to live with his family in Hialeah, Florida. He worked at the airport as a Flight Engineer for Eastern Airlines. His wife worked for the Hialeah Police Department. When Eastern Airlines went on strike during the early 1960s, he was forced to return to Smyrna to find a job with Lockheed, where he worked until he retired, never again working as a Flight Engineer. His wife, Ruth, and their sons soon followed, also moving back to Georgia. After he retired, Bud went back to school and earned a degree. He also became a real estate broker, as did his wife. One of the first properties they bought, upon their return to Smyrna, was a house on a pretty little piece of property on Powder Springs Street. Bud worked very hard on it, clearing the acreage of timber, rocks, and bushes every day after working at Lockheed. The house was around a hundred years old. They did find some arrow heads and mini-balls on the property; and, even under the house. My daughter, Michelle, and her second husband, Vince Graves, lived in this same house for a while when they were married. It was right around the corner from Bud's mother and father's house on Hughes Street. Many years later, Bud & Ruth built their dream house on some property they owned in White, Georgia. Bud is buried in Georgia Memorial Park, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.
