Note: Email from Myra Gormley 1/12/2010: I'm not sure about Doctor Martin VDPs's birth date. I tend to believe the earlier record (1870 census for Newton County, AR) where he is listed as age 7 and born in Iowa. In 1880 census he is listed as age 15 and born in MO. William, his father, was in Iowa in the 1863-1864 time period after he was released from the US Army due to an injury. However, I've been unable to pinpoint his movements exactly. Keep hoping someone with a better source will show up and set this record straight. In the meanwhile, I guess the ca date of 1863-5 is what I'm stuck with.
