A memorial service for Charles E. Vanderpool, 77, a Carson City resident for the past 35 years, will be at Good Shepard Wesleyan Church. Mr. Vanderpool died July 27, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born in Medford, Ore., to Charles E. and Mabel E. Vanderpool. He graduated from high school in Medford. Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oregon. Mr. Vanderpool served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years, during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was active in nursing home ministries. Among his survivors are his sister Virginia J. Johnson of Everett, WA.; a son Charles, of Central Point, OR.; and dearest friend Viola Htatt of Carson City. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments. (Nevada Appeal, Carson City, Nevada, Wednesday, July 30, 2003)
Note: The obituary listed his parents as Marion Francis and Nancy P. Shepherd Vanderpool, who actually are his grandparents and parents of his father, Charles Emerick Vanderpool. The newspaper printed a corrected obituary on 31 Jul 2003.
Mom and I arranged for Charles Jr's headstone, so was glad to see that, but they left off his WWII service during which he was a POW, captured in the Battle of the Bulge. (Kevin Johnson, 3 Aug 2010)
Charles had 3 sons: Charles Emerick Vanderpool III (still alive), Fred Edward Vanderpool died I think in 1995 in Salem Oregon and myself Harry Earl Vanderpool born 1958. (Harry Vanderpool, 11 Jan 2020, Find-A-Grave message board)
