Note: N3022 Jane E. Hinson (instead of Henson) is enumerated with Elizabeth Smith in the 1850 Old Town Beat, Perry County, Alabama. Her age is given as 23 years. She has two sons, R.M., age 4 years and J.S.W.B. age 1 year. It shows all three were born in Alabama. In 1850 Perry County, Alabama, Jane Hinson appears to be a widow with 2 small children and is living with an Elizabeth Smith who would probably be her mother. Elizabeth Smith is probably a widow also with children Nathaniel, Mary, Rachel S., and Margaret Smith. On 8 Sept. 1857, Gustavus Hendrick married Jane Henson in Perry Co, Alabama A. G. and Jane Hendrick are enumerated with E. Smith in the 1860 Jerico Beat, Perry County, Alabama Census. Jane`s age is given as 30 years and born in South Carolina. It is interesting because it shows Elizabeth Smith with her children, then Robert McLellan and Jas. S. B. and W. E. C. with dittos under the McLellan but no Henson. Robert's middle name was supposed to have been McCellan? Also in the same household are A. G. Hendrick and Jane with one child by their marriage, M. J., and it appears that A. G. Hendrick had two children from a previous marriage. Perry County records show a Gustavus Hendrick married Manerva Howie/Hewie on 15 Feb. 1844. So evidently it is a 2nd marriage for both of them and the census becomes confusing because you have the children of Elizabeth Smith as well as the children of Jane and Gustavus by their marriage and previous marriages, all living in the same household. From the Land Records in Perry County, there is a document, dated 24 October 1867, which shows that Gustavus and Jane Hendrick sold to Lucy Sanders the following parcel of land lying in the County of Perry, Alabama;- the west half of the north west quarter, section thirty one and south west quarter of south west quarter of thirty in township twenty one of range eight, containing one hundred and nineteen acres more or less, and everything on it, for $75.00. (This land is about two miles due west of Heiberger and near the Bethesda Cemetery in Perry County.) Gus and Jane Hendricks are enumerated in the 1870 Township 12, Post Office Clear Creek Falls, Walker County, Alabama Census. Her age is given as 40 years and born in South Carolina. August (Gustavus) and Jane E. Hendrix are enumerated in the 1880 Township 12, Range 9, Walker County, Alabama Census. Her age is given as 52 years and born in South Carolina. Conversation between Phil Henson and Helen Dudley at Old Bethel Cemetery on 3 May 1992. Helen states that grave next to Gus Hendricks is that of his wife, Jane Hendricks. She remembers cleaning some of the grave sites with Marvin Wilson and Marvin stating that the two graves were those of his grandmother and grandfather Hendricks. Marvin was the son of Charles Wilson and Manerva Jane (Hendricks) Wilson. Mrs. Dewey Hendrix (Mary Elizabeth Turner). Dewey was a son of Green David Hendrix and a grandson of Gus and Jane Hendrix (Hendricks). She states that the family always referred to Jane as Granny Hendrix or "Merry". She states that Jane died of typhoid fever in 1900, the same year that Gus died of pneumonia.
