Death again has visited our community and claimed as its own Jonathan Cline who was born in Monroe County, Ohio, January 10, 1838 and died July 2, 1922. He was united in marriage to Matilda Provance January 1, 1857. To this union were born seven children, three of whom have preceded him to the great beyond. Soon after their marriage, they united with the Christian Union Church at Low Gap, having embraced the religion of Jesus Christ. They then erected a family alter on which they always kept the fires of devotion burning. He was a man of prayer and devoted much time in prayer and it can be said of him that he obeyed the scripture, which says, "Pray without ceasing." Often after the family had fallen asleep, he would be come so deeply in earnest in pouring out his heartfelt thanks to the Lord that he would burst fourth in shouts of praise until the entire household was aroused. Six years ago, having disposed of his farm in West Virginia he moved to Pike County and located on a farm near Nipgen. Three years later the family was again broken by the death of his companion. They had walked side by side and shared each other's joys and sorrows for more than three score years, but he was left to fight life's battles alone. For the past three years, he has made his home with his children. He had been some time with his daughters in Monroe and Washington Counties, but at the time of his death, he was visiting his daughters in Pike County. He died at the home of Mrs. Ruth Hanlon after a brief illness. He leaves to mourn one brother, four children, thirty-seven grandchildren, thirty's even great grandchildren and a host of friends. A brief funeral service was held at the home of Rev. N.P. Hanlon, conducted by Rev. J.D. Roberts and the body taken to Washington County for burial, following further funeral ceremonies in the Methodist church, conducted by a Newport Baptist minister and the remains laid beside his companion in the Newport Cemetery.
