a. Note:   John Vanderpool was born about 1794 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He served in the military (War of 1812) ca 1812-1815 from Ashe County, North Carolina. He was a member of Cove Creek Baptist Church between 1817 and 1830 in Ashe County, North Carolina. He bought land between 1825 and 1840 in various places - North Carolina, Indiana and Illinois. He purchased land from the federal government in 1837 in Shelby County, Illinois. He died about 1840 in probably Pulaski County, Missouri. [No record of his death or probate has been found as of 2009.
  John Vanderpool and Susannah (probably) Reeese were married evidently about 1814 in Ashe County, North Carolina. It is believed, but unproven, that Susannah Reese was the daughter of Johann Valentine "Felty" Reese and Christine Harmon and was born about 1795 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. She died from dropsy of the brain (encephalitis) in July of 1849 in Pulaski County, Missouri.
  War of 1812 Service Record for John Vanderpool, Company Pay Roll and Company Muster Roll, February 16, 1815 to March 11, 1815. Served as Private in Capt. Gideon Lewes' Company of North Carolina Detached Militia, 4th Regiment, from Ashe Co, North Carolina. (Nathional Archives Military Records).
  Ashe Co. NC 1815 Tax List: John Vanderpool is shown with 50 acres in Captain Harmon's District, adjoining Hugh Eggers. In the same area are Thomas Swift (probably the one who married John's sister Amy), Vallentine Rees (probably John's father-in-law), and his father Abraham Vanderpool.
  Cove Creek Baptist Church, Wilkes Co, NC: May 1815 John Vanderpool chosen with John Reese to be considered as ruling elders along with John Holtsclaw. June 1815 - Excepted as ruling elders.
 July 1815 - John chosen delegate to Association meeting at Fox Creek, Ashe Co, NC.
  He lived in the area of Cove Creek and owned property in what is now Watauga Co, NC. For a period from 1817 To 1820 his whereabouts are undocumented. He and his wife made application for, and they were granted, letters of dismission from the Cove Creek Baptist Church on the 2nd Saturday of August in 1817. They probably moved to TN as a son was born there during this period. However, they appear in the 1820 Ashe Co, NC census and in Decembet of 1820 they were "Cited to come to next meeting" according to Cove Creek Baptist Church minutes, indicating they returned to NC.
 John and his family moved to Marion Co, IN about Oct 1830 according to Letters of Dismission, which he applied for from the Cove Creek Baptist Church at that time.

  He was the Executor and Administrator of his parent's estate in 1831-35, according to probate and count records in Marion Co, IN.

  No Will or Probate records have been found for John or Susannah in Pulaski Co. He may have died in Indiana. Missouri Mortality Records for 1850 shows Susannah died in Pulaski County in July of 1849.
