L. F. Vanderpool, 88, a retired farmer died Saturday, October 12, at 4:00 a.m. in Delvista Nursing Home in Delta. Levi Franklin Vanderpool was born August 16, 1880 at Jasper, Arkansas. He spent his childhood and early life in Arkansas and in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. He had been a resident of Colorado and Olathe since 1933. L. F. Vanderpool was married January 19, 1903 at Eufaula, Oklahoma, to Ella Porter, who died June 26, 1929. Survivors are three daughters and five sons; Mrs. Oscar (Ola) Young, of Olathe; Fred L Vanderpool, Cooledge, Arizona; Arthur H. Vanderpool of Olathe; Mrs. Tilman (Dorothy) Clark of Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. William (Ruby) Taylor of Boulder, Colorado; Eldee Vanderpool of Olathe; Otis Vanderpool of Montrose, Colorado; and Everett O. Vanderpool of Boulder, Colorado. There are 21 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Mr. Vanderpool was a member of the Olathe Church of Christ. Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 14 from the Chapel of the Roses in Montrose. Harry E. Johnson of the Montrose Church of Christ officiated. Casket bearers were Leonard Young, Daniel Nichols, Larry Vanderpool, John Stites, Herbert Miller, Fred Conner, Art Vanderpool, and Dan Shipp, grandsons of Mr. Vanderpool. L. F. (Levi Franklin Vanderpool), the youngest child of Capt. James R. Vanderpool and Anna Henderson.) His wife was Martha Ellen "Ella" Potter and they lived in the Eufaula, McIntosh County, OK area for several years from ca 1903 until late 1920s -- removing to Arizona by 1930. Ella died between 1924-1930. I suspect she might have died in Arizona, but I don't have that information. They had 11 known children. (Myra Vanderpool Gormley 7/4/2010)
Bill, sorry it's taken so long to respond. I do not know that much about the Vanderpool family, most of what I have came from Myra Vanderpool Gormley. I was not interested in genealogy back when my mother-in-law talked about her family so didn't pay that much attention to what she said. I do recall her saying one of her brothers was a bigamist (in answer to the girl who mentioned it in the info you sent). Dorothy (mother-in-law) said her name was Dorothy Pansy Pauline instead of Dorothy Frances. I have a few pictures, although they are pretty small & in a photo album, of some of the Vanderpools. When I get time will unpack the album & try to scan & send them to you, if they scan ok (don't want to take them out of album). One of the pics is James Roberson Vanderpool, like the one on Findagrave. She has written on it Grandpa Vanderpool, I didn't know who for sure it was until I saw yours. I do know that Levi Vanderpool moved back & forth from OK to AZ to CO several times. Daisy Ellen is buried in Eakly, OK. There is a pic of her stone in the album. I have a page from "Men and Women in the Armed Forces from Montrose County" (Colorado). It has 4 Vanderpools on it. 3 are listed as sons of Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Vanderpool..this would be Levi Franklin, son of James Roberson VDP and Anna L. Henderson. the 4th, not listed as a son, is Otis J. who I assume to be James Otis, also a son, and husband of the former Marie Southall. The other 3 are Arthur H., husband of the former Martha Southall; Ervin W.; and L.D., husband of the former Vollie Wilson. (Ed & Kathy Hughes, heweys@@prodigy.net)
