Another fascinating Vanderpool fellow is William Tecumseh -- born 1865 in Caldwell County, MO, the son of Aden Carver Vanderpool and Caroline E. Owen. William went to Alaska after 1900 and raised a large family there by a native woman. However, I've also discovered that William earlier had married a woman (Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Vincent) in Washington state (about 1892) and had two children by her. Those children were: Inez F. Vanderpool, born in 1893 in WA (nothing more on her) and Grover W. Vanderpool, born in 1896 in WA. Grover died in Seattle in 1958. Are there any descendants of these children out there that will share information? (Myra Vanderpool Gormley, 2 Jul 2009, RootsWeb Message Board)

When I was 20, my dad disappeared. He may´ve fallen through the ice on his way to spring camp; his body was never found. (His son, Robert Ingersol Vanderpool, born 15 Oct 1915)
According to document written by his brother-in-law Frank Vincent, he left for Alaska, "never to be heard from again" when his son Grover W. Vanderpool was about 4. Lizzie married Sam Irwin who raised Grover Vanderpool.

Nora, my great aunt, was Aden and Caroline's youngest daughter and she used to tell stories of when they left Missouri in a covered wagon on the way to Montana. Her brother William was my grandfather. He was married in Montana and divorced after 2 children (Grover and Inez, she died as a child). In 1898 he went to Alaska at the onset of the gold rush and later married my grandmother (Native American) and had 8 children. When we moved to Calif in the 1950's we met Aunt Nora. She gave my mother the original wedding certificate of Aden and Caroline, along with various other documents and photos. I also have a letter William wrote to Nora dated 1911. (William Acheff)
