Note: Nellie Marie Vanderpool, 96, passed away Sept. 15, 2019 at the Monte Vista Estates. Marie was born March 27, 1923 in Mosca, Colo. Marie graduated from Moffat High School. Survived by daughter, Doris Abeyta, Talihinia Okla. and son Daryl (Darlene) Vanderpool, Pueblo; grandchildren, Tracy (Colleen) Vanderpool, Eric (Joseph Fraga) Vanderpool, Mona (Kenny) Lovato, Vicki (Larry Chacon) Abeyta and Devin (Suzan) Abeyta; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie West, Lenora (Chuck) Rice and Jackie (Donna) Duncan. Preceded in death by mother, Polly Lambert; husband, Bernie M. Vanderpool; brothers, Ed Duncan, Beryl Duncan and Floyd Duncan. Marie loved making quilts and made them for so many family members. Several of them are made from old Levi’s and are still being used. She really enjoyed gardening. Marie could make the most delicious hot rolls. Marie was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Cremation was chosen, there will be no services, internment will be in Monte Vista Cemetery. Her mother was Polly Garrett Lambert (1902-1988). From her Find-A-Grave memorial: Marie was born after her mother’s divorce from Harry Edward Brown, yet prior to her mother’s marriage to Benjamin Duncan. She did use Duncan as her maiden name. However, on her death certificate it lists the father as “unknown.” At present, I am uncertain of whether one of these men was the father and, if anyone has more information, please feel free to submit it to me. - Mary King, memorial creator
