 Farmer cattle-feeder. Wilbur and Elaine lived on the Chalk Hills Ranch near Scotia for over 57 years. Valuing service to God, his family, church and community, Wilbur served on many church and community boards, including the North Loup-Scotia school board, the Nebraska State School Board, the Scotia Rural Fire District and Mid-Nebraska Community Mental Health Center. He was on the board of directors for the North Loup Valley Bank and the Federal Land Bank. Wilbur's family and friends appreciated his creative problem-solving skills and "handyman" abilities. He, in turn, was happiest while serving others.
 Growing up during the Great Depression, Wilbur learned the value of faith and community, and in the process developed resilience. When asked about how he had handled all the challenges in his life, Wilbur answered that everyone had trouble in this world and that you need to give it all over to God. His family will never forget the lessons they learned from him and how humbly he walked with his God.
