 Farmer and trucker. In 1985 he owned the south half of Section 25, Enterprise Township, Valley County. In 1986 they moved to Kearney and opened a one-hour photo developing business. They moved back to Ord in 1988, and he began trucking for Bahlen Company out of Columbus. He trucked until 2002, when he broke his neck in a trucking accident and was forced to retire. Throughout his life, Arvin enjoyed anything that moved.  He raced stock cars and go-carts.  He and his sons enjoyed racing slot cars and building tractors for tractor pulls.  He also owned two airplanes and flew Congresswoman Virginia Smith to many of her speaking engagements.  He ad a love of motorcycles, owning a Harley and a Honda Goldwing, and participated in numerous motorcycle clubs.  He enjoyed hitting the open road, touring the country and attended Sturgis many times.  His goal was to travel to all four corners of Nebraska.  He made all but one before his health deteriorated. Arvin was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church through the years and served as an elder.  He was also a school board member of Valleyside District No. 10 School.   He was director of the Northeast State Trap Shooters Association as he had an avid love of the sport.
