Note:   Farmer. In 1904 he owned parts of section 25 and leased part of section 36 in Vinton township, Valley County. In 1920 he was on the county board of supervisors in Valley County. By 1926 he had bought 160 acres in section 36, Vinton township. He retired to Lincoln Nebraska before 1952. He was often called Bernard, Ben, or R. Benjamin. Ida Stroup, a 65-year-old teacher, lived with the Hackels in 1920.
