Note:   Ruth was confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church near Lyons in 1940. While a girl she contracted an abdominal infection and was saved only by the use of penicillin, then a new drug, garnered from military stores. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1944. She worked as a bank teller in Fremont before her marriage. She died of cancer.

Note:   Ruth Dunklau contributed to numerous Lutheran organizations. She served on the board of directors of Lutheran Family Services from 1979 to 1985 and was president of the board in 1984 and 1985. Lutheran Family Services named its building at 24th and Harney Streets in Omaha the Dunklau Building in honor of the couple.
