Farmer. He was raised on the family farm southwest of Ord and received his education at Hardscrabble Country School and graduated from Ord High School in 1939.
He lived in Mira Valley until 1962, when he bought another farm in the North Loup-Scotia vicinity. In 1985 he and Lois owned 80 acres in Section 1, Independent Township, Valley County. In 2008, the couple moved into Ord and resided at the Grandview Independent and Assisted Living Center. Charles was a member of the Ord Christian Church where he served as an elder and taught adult bible school. He was a trustee of the Nebraska Christian College for 10 years and a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed golfing, playing pool, traveling and camping.
