Henry attended Kearney Normal School in 1906, and Boyles College at Omaha, in 1907. He operated a general store with Amelia and Albert. He registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917. He later owned and operated Bredthauer Motor Company (dealership and repair) at Scotia, starting 1933. He also had an interest in the Buick Agency with headquarters in Casper, Wyoming, where he owned a garage. He was a member and chairman of the Scotia Village Board, and director of Nebraska-Wyoming Oil Development Co, with two test wells in the Scotia vicinity, and treasurer of the Dominion Oil Corporation. He was president of the Scotia Business Men's Club 1922-28 and a member of the Lions International, the Red Cross, the Parent-Teachers' Association, and the Nebraskana Society. He was fond of golf, football, and baseball. He was a Republican. At the time of his death he was taking an active interest in movements to bring the construction of the Davis Creek dam to reality, as well as energetically seeking good roads for this locality. He had long been an advocate of better roads for central Nebraska. He was leader of the movement designed to bring natural gas to Scotia and the North Loup valley. He attended a meeting of the Scotia community club the night before his death. The Scotia municipal airport was purchased and made possible largely through Mr. Bredthauer's efforts.
