Note:   Phillip served in the army in WWI. He attended schools in Douglas county and was graduated from the Waterloo high school in 1904. After attending the Fremont preparatory school, he completed three years of college at the University of Nebraska college of law. After engaging in business several years with his father at Elkhorn, Nebraska, he operated a farm south of Scotia. In 1915 Phillip and his father became owners and operators of the Scotia Lumber and Implement business, and contineued in this business for several years. He served as Scotia postmaster for four years and was an accountant for the Scotia Cooperative Creamery Co. In 1940 they were living with his parents in Scotia. He was a member of Reuben Beck Legion Post 150 for 45 years and a member of Zion Lutheran church. He died after artery bypass surgery of the leg.
