Note:   Martha graduated from Ord High School in 1920 and attended the University of Nebraska. She taught in the rural schools of Valley County, Nebraska, 2 years in Chappell, Nebraska, and in the primary grades in the Columbus Public Schools. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a young girl at the age of 14, and attended the First Baptist Church in Columbus for many years where she was active as a soloist and choir member, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society.
