Note:   Caroline worked as a maidservant for a painter named Hofmeier in Bückeburg. She emigrated to America with her new husband immediately after marriage. After the death of her husband in the Civil War, she stayed on the farm near Eitzen Minnesota for a year and a half. She tried to find work in Chicago but failed, so she returned to Minnesota and bought another 40 acres next to her land, renting out all but 16 acres. This property was in the extreme southwestern corner of Winnebago township, the west half of the southwest quarter of section 31, right on the Iowa state line. She was a founding member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eitzen, Minnesota in 1871. She sold her farm to J. Deters and moved to Nebraska, arriving on 10 May 1872 with relatives, where she bought another farm from Mr. Geisler just east of the Eggert farm. In the spring of 1885, she moved to Ellinwood Kansas with two of her daughters and their families, and returned to Nebraska in the spring of 1887. She suffered from asthma.

Note:   SP.47 gives her birthday as 18 Aug 1822, but this is certainly in error. EE.1 and SFR.1 give the same date, but probably copied the error from SP.47. In her baptismal record, her father is listed as Friedrich Wilhelm Kohlmeier.
