Note:   Her name is sometimes rendered as Dorothea GUTTEN (JP1292) or GUTLEN (JP.A.2) or GUTLING (EK1a.1). These all derive from her gravestone at SE corner, Zion Lutheran Church, Eitzen MN, which reads “Hier ruhet in Frieden DOROTHEA Gutten [sic, should be Gattin] des Hrrn Fr. Kohlmeier”. Her name is also listed as Maria Sophie Dorothea Branding. She came to the US on the Ella, landing in New York on 2 June 1853. According to Hermann Kohlmeier's autobiography, she and her son Henry Flege lived for a while at Elmhurst, Illinois and then in Chicago. They moved to Lansing, Iowa, probably about 1857 or 1858, and thereafter she married Friedrich Kohlmeier, though a provisional marriage certificate was issued already in 1853 in Bremen. She was a founding member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eitzen, Minnesota in 1871. In 1875 she lived with her son Henry in Wilmington, Minnesota.
