Note:   Herman immigrated to the US about June 10, 1881 (listed in the passenger ship list as Hans) with his wife, son Otto, and supposed 16-year-old brother Herman (could really be Hans, and may be her brother instead), aboard the S.S. Australia. He farmed at Hoskins NE, between Norfolk and Winside, on the southeast quarter of Section 13, Hoskins Township, Wayne County. He was naturalized at Wayne on 3 Dec 1889. He boarded his niece Wilhelmine Nehring, who was working as a waitress in Norfolk at the time of her marriage. Between 1910 and 1920 he retired to Norfolk, residing at 403 3rd St.
