Notes
a. Note:   Jonas M. Ackerman, 807 N. 7th St., former county commissioner, general contractor, and active in fraternal circles in the area, died at 7:05 p.m. yesterday at the Allentown hospital at the age of 76. He had been ill for the last year. Mr. Ackerman was born in Forgedale, Berks county, a son of the late Edmund and Mary (Minner) Ackerman. His wife, Sarah (Schneck) Ackerman, preceded him in death in 1928. A brother, Henry, and a sister, Mary Ann, also preceded him in death a number of years ago. He gave up his contracting business in 1931 to take the commissioner's office. He was at one time a member of the Common council of the city, and among his fraternal affiliations was a life membership in the Pioneer band. This organization serenaded him at his home upon the occasion of his 75th birthday anniversary in 1947. He had been a cornet soloist with the band for a number of years. Mr. Ackerman was a member of Dubbs memorial Evangelical and Reformed church, the Red Men, Moose, Golden Eagles, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Owls, Jordan Lodge of Masons, Lehigh Consistory, Allen Commandry, Raja Temple, Tall Cedars, Independent Order of Americans, and the Pioneer, Greenawalds and Cetronia fire companies. Surviving are six children: Ralph, Robert and Harvey, Allentown; Viola, wife of Winfield Nagle, Detroit; Grace, wife of William Bierman, Washington, D.C.; and Verna, wife of Paul Moyer, Egypt; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, the latest of which was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Lentz, at the Sacred Heart hospital.
