Note: William S. Schlegel, crossing watchman for the P. & R., while going to work Tuesday, was struck by engine 1526, eastbound freight train. He was taken care by the proprietor of the Lyons Hotel, Robert Barto, at which place he expired soon afterward. The accident happened while Mr. Schlegel was coming to work and while waiting on a westbound freight to pass to enter his watch box, failing to hear the whistle of the east bound train and was hurled with some force to the side of the track. Willing hands who witnessed the sad accident ran to his assistance and took him to the home of Robert Barto and immediately called Dr. Roger. On his arrival life was extinct. Mr. Schlegel was employed by the P. & R. for 26 years. A number of years as trackwalker. He was a faithful employe and was well liked by all who knew him. The people in his community as the news was spread bowed their heads to this well liked gentleman. Mr. Schlegel leaves his wife and ten children.
