a. Note:   "J. P." moved to McMinn County, TN in the early 1890's. He bought a farm where he raised cattle and horses, had his own blacksmith shop, a big orchard, and everything the family needed to be self-sufficient. He was a Methodist minister and a well-respected member of the community. At his death his children inherited the farm; Nathaniel, who was living on and working the farm at the time of J. P.'s death, originally tried to purchase the entire farm but he and Will eventually split it between them.
