Note: After Thomas and Barbara (she was generally known as "Caroline") separated (divorced?) he took their son Alex and went to Texas and Caroline never saw her son again. After she married John Whisenhunt they moved to Bryson City, NC. Caroline came back home to East Tennessee to take care of her parents in their last days. By that time she was a widow. After her father's death in 1907 she went to Tipton, GA to live with her daughter, Barbara (Whisenhunt) Worley. Caroline's great-granddaughter, Gladys Mercer, remembered Caroline and said she was very stooped and bent in her later years. Neighbors built her casket and buried her the day she died. She was dressed in a gray silk dress with white lace on the front that had been sent to her by "Cousin Mayme" from North Carolina. Both Caroline and her daughter Barbara were living with Barbara's son, Frank Worley, at the time of their deaths.
