a. Note:   After John's death, Harriet married (1 Mar 1874) Rev. George McMahan, son of William McMahan. John Shults was a Union Army veteran of the Civil War, a Private, E County, 2nd Tenn Cavalry, 16 Sep 1862 - 6 Jul 1865. He's also buried in Webbs Creek Cemetery, apparently unmarked. His first cousin, John W. Shults, was also in Co E of the 2nd Tenn Volunteer Cavalry and their records are sometimes confused.
