Note: In 1845 an Act of the State Legislature appointed him to a Commission to "view" (oversee) a turnpike road in Cocke County. In the same year he was also named, by an Act of the Legislature, to the Commission formed to select a new County Seat. He served as the first Postmaster at Hackletooth (one of the early names for Cosby) in 1858.
