a. Note:   arragansett Planters, also maintained a home at Newport. He alternated living in both places with part of his family remaining at Newport and part at Westerly. At the outbreak of the Revolution, William was getting ready to move everyone to the Westerly residence for safety when the British took possession of Newport on Dec. 7, 1776. William was forced to remain in Newport as a vertual prisoner until Oct. 1779 when the Americans regained control of the city. His wife and three of his daughters shared his semi-imprisonment and were cut off from the rest of the family for nearly 3 years. each have their own stones. (from Wingen FTM 1628)
