a. Note:   t town, and that he was made freeman there, 1 May 1760. He was evidently a privateersman in the French and Indian War, as the records of the Court of Common Pleas of Washington County (then King's County), RI [Book F, p. 307], show that 'Sylvester Pendleton of Westerly, mariner, late master of said schooner, Thomas Hazard, John Ross and Henry Wall of Newport, to recover 5000 pounds, and judgment for 1800 pounds and costs was given in his favor at the sitting of the Court held in August 1763. What became of him subsequently we have not been able to learn. His name does not appear in either the Rhode Island Census of 1774 or the US Census of 1790, and neither his will nor any administration upon his estate is to be found.
