The photograph may have been taken at the Old Barnes Cemetery (Clay County, West Virginia; on Maysel Laurel Ridge Road/Route 7, about a half mile to a mile north of Camp Run Road, cemetery is up a dirt road on your left, a short climb to the top) as this is where John's parents and many relatives were buried (and he was as well alongside his wife) - as noted upon a visit to the cemetery by Valerie Butler, Sept. 10, 2013.

The poems are addressed to Wilmer's two daughters, Arbutus "Boots" BARNES and Dolores Rose BARNES, as well as his father, John BARNES. The collection was briefly in the possession of Valerie Butler (Baltimore, MD) who created the digital scans. She sent them to Arbutus Barnes Strang in California (n.d.) but never heard back. Arbutus was battling cancer at the time.
